This wondrous Chardonnay hails from the charming village of Puligny-Montrachet, in the prestigious Côte de Beaune. The wine is steeped in both tradition and craftsmanship, coming from the great Burgundian estate of Joseph Drouhin, which has existed since 1880. Its elegance is unmatched, taking on at once a full-flavored yet silky feel with a concentrated persistence worthy of the original price... though, here at First Bottle, you can find it at an epic 33% off!

The 2022 vintage in Burgundy – and specifically the Côte de Beaune – was borderline flawless, with warm and dry conditions that led to fruit with a strong balance, premium ripeness, rich fruit characters, and a soft and tingly acidity. This wine comes from the quaint Puligny-Montrachet village, just a few meters from the Grands Crus – an undulating landscape containing brown limestone soils, with some marls and limey-clays. Some areas have deep soils, while others are rocky all the way to the surface. Altitudes vary between 230-320 meters above sea level here, with east and southeast exposures. The grapes are sourced from meticulous growers, and hand harvested prior to slow pressing and malolactic fermentation in oak, with aging in 20% new oak barrels for 14 to 16 months.

The third generation of the Drouhin family runs the estate today, which has amassed 100 hectares of vineyards across Burgundy, covering Chablis, Côte de Nuits, Côte de Beaune, Côte Chalonnaise, and Mâconnais, and mainly comprised of Grand and Premier Crus. The family’s goal is all at once simple, yet striving – they call for “elegant perfection” in all that they do and produce. This focus has earned them a reputation for exceptional wines made with a commitment to tradition while intertwining strategic, thoughtful advances of modern-day technologies to craft some of the most unbelievable Chardonnays and Pinot Noirs you’ll find anywhere in the world.

Ripe exotic and orchard fruits mingle, expressing notes of dried pineapple, white peach, and candied mango upon your initial sniff and taste. A side of delicate floral notes of lemon blossom and jasmine dance through the scene, along with hints of roasted almonds, lemon peel, and grilled peaches. Richly silky in texture and delightfully bright, with an ever-lasting finish, it’s generous and luxurious and entirely too easy to sip! Overall, this wine is an enchanting White Burgundy success from a heralded family whose wines often reach high into the three-figure marks – but today you can get some for over $50 off!

PAIRING IDEAS: Whip up a creamy batch of fish florentine with creamed spinach and halibut, and a generous squeeze of lemon, to balance out the bright flavors in this White Burgundy.

About The Producer

Founded in Beaune in 1880, Maison Joesph Drouhin cellars have spread from the historical cellars of the Dukes of Burgundy and the Kings of France in Beaune to the Moulin de Vaudon. Today the house is run by Joesph's four grand children who practiaclly grew up in the vineyards and cellars. With 80 hectares (197.5 acres), the Joseph Drouhin Domaine is one of the largest estates in the region. It owns vineyards in all of Burgundy: Chablis (38 hectares - 94 acres), Côte de Nuits and Côte de Beaune, (38.5 hectares - 95 acres), Côte Chalonnaise (3.5 hectares - 8.5 acres). It is comprised of a majority of Premier and Grand Crus, planted with the two Burgundian grape varietals, pinot noir and chardonnay. With close to 90 different appellations, Joseph Drouhin offers a fascinating array of Burgundy terroirs and all their subtle variations.
