Carlo Ferrini is one of the most respected consulting enologists in Tuscany, having shaped the careers of dozens of estates across the region over five decades. Giodo is his personal project, a four-hectare estate southeast of Montalcino near the foot of Mount Amiata, founded in 2009, where he applies everything he has learned to a wine he calls entirely his own. When Ferrini sat down with Wine Advocate’s Monica Larner to taste the 2019, he told her he put every last drop of love into this vintage and believes it is the finest wine he has made at Giodo thus far.

The critical response was unprecedented for this estate. Farr Vintners awarded 100 points, Rupert Valentini 100, James Suckling 99, Wine Advocate 98+, Jeb Dunnuck 98+, TWI 97, Wine Enthusiast 96, Wine Spectator 95, and Vinous 94. Farr Vintners described it as seducing with stunning aromas of gardenia, allspice flower, and arbutus berries laced with fennel and subtle wood smoke, crunchy yet lush on the palate with profound substance, finely powdered assertive tannins, and blood orange piercing the lengthy finish, calling it a truly remarkable wine amid a slew of successes in a phenomenal vintage. Decanter’s Michaela Morris named it one of her top picks for the vintage, calling it the best Giodo yet, singing eloquently of Montalcino’s south. Two perfect scores. Three in the high 90s. These are among the most limited and extraordinary wines in this entire offer. Don’t hesitate.
