The Marqués de Murrieta Rioja Castillo Ygay Gran Reserva Especial 2012 is one of Spain’s most iconic wines, sourced from the estate’s historic Ygay vineyard and produced only in exceptional vintages. Aged for years in both barrel and bottle before release, it shows remarkable depth and complexity with layers of dark cherry, dried flowers, leather, spice, and polished tannins. This legendary Gran Reserva, built for both immediate pleasure and decades of cellaring, is a benchmark for traditional Rioja at its most elegant and enduring.

About The Producer

Marqués de Murrieta, founded by Don Luciano Murrieta in 1852, is considered the origin of Rioja wine. Inspired by techniques from Bordeaux, Don Luciano crafted the first fine Rioja with the goal of creating a wine with exceptional aging potential and exporting it beyond Spain. His vision led to the first shipment of Rioja wine to countries like Mexico and Cuba, marking a pivotal moment in the history of Spanish winemaking. The historic Castillo de Ygay, the winery's headquarters, was transformed into a symbol of balance between heritage and modern technology, and in 2019, it was declared a museum due to its architectural and cultural significance. Since 1983, the Cebrián-Sagarriga family has led Marqués de Murrieta with a commitment to tradition and excellence. In 2021, they completed an extensive renovation, inaugurating a state-of-the-art winemaking facility alongside the Castillo de Ygay, positioning the winery as one of the most innovative in the world. With over 50,000 square meters of gardens and cutting-edge technology, Marqués de Murrieta continues to craft high-quality wines while staying true to its roots. The family's dedication to passion, unity, and forward-thinking ensures the legacy of Marqués de Murrieta endures as they evolve with new ideas and global reach.
