One thing’s for sure – Mayacamas will always stand the testament of time in the cellar, and this 2020 is no exception! In their 94 point review, Vinous put it like this: “Overall, this is impeccably done, especially within the context of the year.” Those who know, know… 2020 was one of the more challenging vintages in recent years in Napa Valley with insanely high temps and wildfires – though the fruit here was picked well before the Glass Fire made its way through the valley. To deter any smoke taint from the LNU Complex Fires, the fruit was carefully selected and rinsed with shorter maceration time and the press wine kept separate. While many producers had to scrap or severely cut down their harvest for this vintage, Mayacamas pulled out something borderline miraculous here with their attentive and scrupulous winemaking, and the results are astounding.

Dark, deep, complex, and brooding as can be, the wine pours a rich garnet purple with notes of juicy black fruits, purple flowers, menthol, sweet bay, dried Herbes de Provence, and black peppercorn. Structured and powerful, this is simply beautifully done. Just be sure to move quickly, as our limited numbers are certain to fly! This stands as one of Napa’s top collectible Cabernets that you simply can’t miss.

About The Producer

Founded in 1889, Mayacamas stands as one of the most storied vineyard and winery operations in the history of American wine. Through its more than 125 years of production, Mayacamas has earned its place as a standard-bearer of traditional winemaking, and the source of some of California’s most iconic and longest-lived bottles. Named for mountain range that divide the Napa and Sonoma valleys, the old stone winery was dug into the side of a dormant volcano crater in 1889 and has remained in production ever since. For generations, methods and tools have been passed from owner to owner, and the Mayacamas style has remained remarkably consistent.
