Julien Fayard is more than just a winemaker extraordinaire – he’s also a grape whisperer, receiver of countless 100-point scores, and all-in-all cool guy. It should be no surprise that he’s hit another one out of the park with this 99-POINT 2023 Guest Cottage Cabernet! We’ve shared this once before, to a ravenous response from you all, and we don’t have much left!
Today’s gem was made in 2023, which is shaping up to be one of the most exceptional vintages in at least the last 20 years. Julien is a Bordeaux transplant and much admired for the way he combines California power with French precision. Tasting Panel calls this Cabernet “an athletic red, with a savory earth-meets-new leather persona; dramatic as it is luxurious.” So… a killer vintage, top winemaker, 99 points, HALF off each bottle, ready to drink right now? An easy yes!
Beau Vigne is proudly under the radar, but its reputation can’t be contained. Robert Parker calls it one of his favorite wineries, and this Napa hotspot continues to be an incubator for serious winemaking talent: Dave Phinney, Kirk Venge, and now… Julien Fayard!
This is a rich, velvety, supremely stylish Napa Cab loaded with blackberries and black cherries, flecked with hypnotic aromatics of rose oil and creme de cassis. Saddle leather adds depth and warmth, along with savory olive tapenade, tingly fennel, and mocha. A smudge of sage and dried violets add a touch of grace to the finish, and everything glides across the tongue like silk. We can attest that this is mightily easy to drink now, but its power will push it well into the next decade-plus in your cellar. We’re going way, way below the $250 retail price. For 50% off on all orders, drink in the beauty!
PAIRING IDEAS: Calling on Julien Fayard’s French roots, whip up a classic French bistro steak au poivre, complete with a creamy brandy and black peppercorn sauce drizzled on top to bring out the wine's svelte fruit and spice characteristics.
