It's not often when a wine is considered to be perfection or shows no obvious flaw, but the 2010 Chateau Valandraud is one of those very rare wines. Every part of this wine works together seamlessly, coming together in perfect harmony. The appearance is amazing, displaying an incredible pitch-dark color. Then comes the seductive aromas of freshly ripe blackberries, sweet currants and dark cherries, which are layered with roasted coffee, leather, pain grille, mint, Indian spices, scorched earth and toasty notes. This demonstrates incredible power, depth and remarkable concentration. The rich texture is well structured around beautiful polished tannins, which end in an ultra-long, supple finish that leaves behind a mouthful of delicious dark fruits. The blend consists of 65% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Franc, 5% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Malbec, 1% Carmenere and spent 30 months in 100% new oak barrels. Readers looking to pull the cork on this right now will certainly not be disappointed, as it is extremely approachable with some air contact, but it also has the potential to last decades.

The 2010 Château Valandraud is every bit as stunning as it was on release. Still vivid purple/plum in color, it delivers a powerful, layered bouquet of blackcurrants, tobacco, truffle, and spice, with a deep sense of purity and polish. Full-bodied and plush on the palate, it has ultra-fine tannins and a seamless, mouthfilling texture that makes it hard to put down. This is a thrilling Saint-Emilion with richness, depth, and balance, and it’s drinking beautifully today while promising another 2-3 decades of evolution. Drink 2025-2055.

The 2010 Valandraud has a well-defined bouquet, the fruit slightly darker than its peeers, quite mineral-driven and precise. This feels very lively and energetic. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, plenty of black fruit laced with tar and black pepper. This is a superb Right Bank with class and pedigree. Tasted blind at Farr Vintners 10-Year On Bordeaux horizontal.

This is gorgeous, with ample mocha and licorice notes that are well-embedded into the core of lushly ripe and beguiling boysenberry, blackberry and loganberry fruit. The long finish is filled with black tea, singed spice and fruitcake, with captivating mouthfeel and superb length, as a singed apple wood note echoes at the very end. Displays the fruit and power of the vintage, but harnesses it at the same time. Best from 2015 through 2030. 1,458 cases made.
