Jean-Marc Roulot Gruyaches Meursault 2020
16% OFF RETAIL!
Jean-Marc Roulot finished oenological school in 1989, that same year finally taking over his father Guy’s estate after he’d passed in 1982. He was quickly baptized by fire, learning hands-on how to use the fruit from their renowned selection of top Meursault vineyards to showcase the quality of their vines. With a focus on restraint – less use of new oak, minimal interventions, organic farming – Jean-Marc prefers to isolate tiny plots within larger vineyard sites to pluck the best, most expressive fruit and craft wines with personalities truly unique to their places of origin.
This 2020 Meursault comes from the small, triangular Gruyaches vineyard plot, with vines around 80 years of age contributing to the wine’s massive concentration. Though it’s not a Premier Cru, many wine savants believe that Gruyaches wines rival or even surpass certain Premier Crus – steadily garnering recognition for their quality, richness, immense minerality, and lengthy finish. We have just under two cases of the 2020 – and, thrillingly, TWO magnums to allocate, as well – of this elegant and collectible White Burgundy. Layers of exuberant lemon and lime, and hazelnut, then white flowers, and some pear and apple compote come together delightfully, with a weighty feel, mouth-watering acidity, and stony, enduring finish. It’s full-bodied, yet elegant and delicately fruity, with mineral tension and a lifted bouquet. All-around incredible wine, from a revered producer who is a stronghold of Meursault. Incredibly limited and rarely seen at a discount – collectors, this is your chance to secure a truly remarkable White Burgundy!
