Château Péby Faugères Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Classé 2018
46% OFF RETAIL!
Château Péby Faugères may be a relatively “new” Bordeaux wine, but its heritage is long-lasting and impressive. It was created in 1997 under the great Château Faugères – which has been around since 1619 as a Grand Cru Classé estate of Bordeaux’s Right Bank. Château Péby Faugères wines are made of 100% Merlot grapes grown on 7.5 hectares, and the team maintains a staunch devotion to traditional winemaking techniques while allowing space for certain modern approaches. Winemaking superstar Michel Rolland consults on the wines, and the estate has also undergone extensive renovations and facility upgrades in 2009, while also earning a sustainability certification.
The grapes here grow on a southeast-facing slope atop mostly limestone and clay soils, and most of the vines are over 50 years old. All of this – the state-of-the-art facilities, the storied history, the premium terroir, the exemplary team – play a part in crafting some of the most exquisite Merlot wines you’ll ever have the opportunity to taste. The 2018 vintage is widely considered immaculate in the Right Bank, especially in Saint-Émilion, and this is no exception! Though considerably young, this is already drinking mightily fine, with eruptive notes of plum preserves, blackberry pie, and cedar, with subtle hints of olive tapenade, cured meats, dried herbs, crème de cassis, spicy oak, violets, and a dusting of chalk. Mouth-coating with melty tannins, full fruits, and just enough mineral-esque spice, this is every bit as captivating as you might imagine. We have only a few cases in the house, so jump on this roaring chance at an unbeatably priced Saint-Émilion 100% Merlot from a rockstar producer while you still can!
