Sandrone became one of the defining voices of the \"Barolo Boys\" movement, bridging tradition and innovation with a rare instinct for balance that led fellow winemakers to say simply: \"Sandrone never makes mistakes.\" The Cannubi Boschis (later renamed Aleste in tribute to his grandchildren Alessia and Stefano) was always the estate's heart, a single-vineyard expression of sandy, clay-and-calcareous soils that produce Nebbiolo of arresting elegance and class. The 2008 vintage was a year of very slow, gradual ripening throughout October, and the wine reflects it: gorgeously mid-weight, laced with sweet red cherries, flowers, spices, mint, and minerals, with a Pinot-like vibrancy and grace on the finish that Antonio Galloni called \"dazzling.\" Vinous awarded 95, Wine Advocate 95, James Suckling 94, Wine Spectator 93.
