The estate takes its name from a historic building on the property, going back to the 13th century and originally used for drying chestnuts (\u003cem\u003e\"marroni\"\u003c\/em\u003e in Tuscan dialect) that once served the nearby Madonna delle Grazie chapel. Giuseppe planted the first vines in the mid-’70s, and his son Alessandro, who had followed his father into a career in law, made the first vintage by hand in 1980. He was hooked, eventually turning his passion for Brunello into a philosophy of life when he took over the winery in the 1990s.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eSet on steep, cool, north-facing slopes at roughly 400-430 meters elevation, just below the town walls of Montalcino, the roughly 8-hectare estate benefits from cool night winds and significant temperature swings that produce wines of stupendous elegance, freshness, and layered complexity. This signature reflects Alessandro's staunchly traditional approach of native-yeast fermentation, minimal intervention, and long aging in large oak casks.
