This project – and their 2024 old-vine Garnacha – does exactly that with so much finesse, you’ll think you’re under a spell when you try it. No wonder this wine is named “La Bruja” (“The Witch”)... you’ll be splendidly entranced!

Comando G is the shared vision of winemaking friends Fernando García and Daniel Gómez Jiménez-Landi. Since 2008, they’ve been coaxing overlooked mountain vineyards back to life to prove just how ethereal Garnacha can be. The "G" stands for Garnacha, and their work has been central to redefining both the grape and the reputation of the high-altitude Sierra de Gredos.

"La Bruja de Rozas" – "the Witch of Rozas" – is their village-level wine and calling card, nodding to the eerie light and near-perpetually grey skies of the town of Rozas del Puerto Real. The 2024 is made from 100% old-vine Garnacha grown in decomposed granite and sandy soils at roughly 850 to 900 meters elevation, where cool nights and slow ripening lock in freshness and a stony elegance. Farmed organically and largely biodynamically, hand-harvested, and fermented plot by plot with wild yeasts before a gentle élevage in large oak, the 2024 is the first vintage fully vinified in the estate's new cellar.

This friendly Witch casts a pale, luminous spell of wild strawberries, red cherries, and pomegranate laced with rose petals, crushed violets, and a bundle of scrubby Mediterranean herbs that grow between the pine trees and granite boulders. The palate is light as a feather yet vividly alive, like a mountain stream running over stone, offering silky tannins and crackling acidity with a gravelly, drawn-out, almost wild finish. This is hauntingly beautiful, energetic, transparent, and irresistibly sippable here and now, and just a stunning show of what mountain-grown Spanish Garnacha is capable of achieving.

Perfect find for spooky season, too, I must admit! Grab a few for all your pumpkin, squash, and mushroom fare to come very, very soon!

FOOD PAIRINGS: I literally count the days until the air is crisp enough to pour a light, pretty red and dive face-first into butternut squash heaven. This wine would be so beyond good with a flaky butternut squash empanada, I can’t even handle it!

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0793/2706/8457/files/ComandoGGarnachaLaBrujadeRozasSierradeGredos2024_2000344_FB_Rack.jpg?v=1789160368
