Roy Estate Proprietary Red Napa Valley 2004 - First Bottle

Reviews

90-92 Robert Parker's Wine Advocate -
A new project from the Soda Canyon hillsides, this wine was initially made by Helen Turley, but since the spring of 2005, it is being fashioned by Philippe Melka. There are 1,000 cases produced from a 14-acre vineyard (hard, volcanic soils planted with 80% Cabernet Sauvignon and 20% Petit Verdot) owned by Charles and Charlie Roy. The Petit Verdot is undoubtedly responsible for the wine’s distinctive, spicy, singular perfume of earth, herbs, licorice, flowers, black currants, and cherries. A promising, medium to full-bodied red with outstanding depth as well as moderately high tannin, it will benefit from 2-3 years of cellaring, and should last for 12-14 years.

About the Producer

In the whimsical world of wine, Roy Estate unfurls its tale, starting in 1999 when founding vintners Shirley and Charles Roy took the plunge. They weren't just dreaming of making wine; they were on a quest for greatness! With a twinkle in their eyes, they scoured the Napa Valley for the perfect spot, roping in the valley's finest vineyard whisperers to plant vines and conjure up wines fit for royalty. Fast forward to today, and the torchbearers of this vinous adventure are none other than Stephany Maillery and Stephan Crétier. With a nod to tradition and a gleam of innovation, they've taken the reins, ready to pen the next thrilling chapter in Roy Estate's saga of sublime winecraft. Cheers to them and the legacy they continue to cultivate!
