Glaetzer Amon-Ra Shiraz 2016 - First Bottle

Reviews

96 Robert Parker's Wine Advocate -
Dramatic, intense and powerful, the 2016 Amon Ra Shiraz recalls the 2004 in its youth, crammed with layers of fruit, complex, savory elements and rich, velvety tannins. It's full-bodied, characterized by notes of grilled meat, espresso, black olive, cassis, vanilla, baking spices and an undercurrent of loamy earth. Yes, it's unapologetically big and bold, the product of a warm, sunny climate and ripe grapes, but it does show a sense of decorum, restraint and elegance on the long finish.
95 James Halliday -
From 50-130yo vines, open-fermented, hand-plunged, matured for 16 months in new hogsheads, 95% French. Deep, dense, inky hue; every step (other than a wine-stained crease along the side of the cork) along the way has been carefully scripted, starting and finishing with 15.5% alcohol. If you enjoy mammoth wines of enormous power and depth, go for it. *Gold*

About the Producer

The first Glaetzers settled in the Barossa Valley in 1888 after emigrating from Brandenburg, Germany. Over a century later, winemaking patriarch Colin Glaetzer established Glaetzer Wines, a boutique family owned winery producing premium Barossa Valley wines. Today Colin’s son Ben carries on the wine making traditions at Glaetzer Wines.
