Sbragia Cabernet Sauvignon Monte Rosso Vineyard 2015 - First Bottle

Reviews

94-96 Robert Parker's Wine Advocate -
Judging from these barrel samples, the 2014 and 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Monte Rosso should very well eclipse the outstanding 2013. Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Monte Rosso has a gorgeous perfume of violets, red currants and lavender, lifting the black fruits and baking spices core. Incredibly intense, elegant and very finely structured in the mouth, I can't wait to see this beauty in bottle!

Too late, we are SOLD OUT!

Incredibly rare to see at retail (it typically is only sold at the winery itself!), we were incredibly fortunate to snag a few boxes of Cabernet from this legendary vineyard (Ed Sbragia only gets it because he is old friends with the Martini family). Please don’t miss!

Ed Sbragia, of course, is a Napa Valley legend. He was the head winemaker at Beringer for 32 years before starting his own brand. We’re thinking he’s got a few connections, right? Being old friends with another legendary name, Mike Martini, whose family bought the ranch in the 30s, is a great example. Situated at 900-1200 feet, this is a classic “mountain vineyard” on the southwest side of the Mayacamas range and one that collectors everywhere recognize as one of the greats in California! Its infamous red earth, for which it was named produces wines of intense mineral energy, deep concentration and highly perfumed bouquets.

At $59.95, considering it’s rarity, we think anyone serious about world-class Cab should grab some. While it lasts…!

About the Producer

When Ed was growing up, wine meant both livelihood and quality of life to his family. Ed's grandfather, an immigrant from Tuscany, had naturally gravitated to the wineries flourishing in California at the turn of the century. Ed majored in chemistry at the University of California at Davis, headed for a career in science. But his family background made him the top candidate for a job in a winery laboratory upon graduation. Ed found his way to Beringer where he had an epic run as the winemaker where he stayed for 32 years! This is one of the longest stretches in Napa Valley history (Mike Chelini of Stony Hill takes the cake with 45 years). In 2006, Ed and his wife, Jane, purchased the old Lake Sonoma Winery facility to fulfill his dream and promise to his father to start a family winery.
