Arnaud Mortet Gevrey-Chambertin La Perriere 1er Cru 2017 - First Bottle

Reviews

93 Wine Spectator -
This red is marked by new oak that lends a vanilla note while tightening up the tannins, leaving a fine grain on the finish. Black cherry and blackberry fruit flavors fill in midpalate. Long finish. Best from 2022 through 2035.
90-92 Burghound -
Soft wood sets off ripe, very fresh and relatively elegant aromas of plum, red and dark raspberry and discreet earth nuances. The succulent, round and delicious medium-bodied flavors possess a velvety mouthfeel along with fine mid-palate density, all wrapped in a lightly stony finale. This is an elegant Gevrey 1er.

Not content with just running the family estate (Domaine Denis Mortet), Arnaud Mortet created his own label. This exciting new project (2016 was the first vintage produced) was made possible by a retiring vigneron, who passed a ten acre estate to him and his sister, Clemence. Arnaud carries out all the vineyard work with his team to the same, exacting standards applied to the family vines, and then buys the fruit from the proprietor. The wines are made at the family domaine. While technically it's a negociant buisness as he doesn't own the vineyards, in reality, Arnaud has 100% control of the farming and winemaking. The ten acres are spread around Gevrey-Chambertin, the majority 50-year-old village vines, and then similarly old-vine plots across the Premiers Crus La Perriere and Lavaux St Jacques and Grands Crus Mazoyeres and Charmes.

About the Producer

Not content with just running the family estate (Domaine Denis Mortet), Arnaud Mortet created his own label. This exciting project was made possible by a retiring vigneron, who passed a four-hectare estate to him and his sister, Clemence. This is their inaugural vintage. Arnaud carries out all the vineyard work with his team to the same, exacting standards applied to the family vines, and then buys the fruit from the proprietor. Technically, this makes it a negociant business, but in reality he has 100% control of the vineyards and the winemaking. The four hectares are spread around Gevrey-Chambertin, the majority 50-year-old village vines, and then similarly old-vine plots across the Premiers Crus La Perriere and Lavaux St Jacques and Grands Crus Mazoyeres and Charmes.
