Arnaud Mortet Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru 2017 - First Bottle

Reviews

92-94 Robert Parker's Wine Advocate -
Hailing from an old vine parcel near the holdings of Rousseau and Duroche, the 2017 Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru is excellent, wafting from the glass with aromas of sweet cherries, berries, dried flowers and rich soil tones. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, ample and layered, with a generous core of fruit that cloaks its velvety tannins, displaying excellent energy and concluding with a persistent finish. This gets my nod as the finest of Arnaud Mortet's cuvees for his own label this year.
91-93 Burghound -
This too is aromatically cool, pure and airy with a more elegant array of high-toned essence of red cherry, raspberry and noticeable floral influence. The sleek, delicious and detailed medium-bodied flavors possess a highly refined and seductive mouthfeel before culminating in a muscular, firm and more austere finale that possesses notably better balance. Good stuff fashioned in a more robust style and powerful style.

Too late, we are SOLD OUT!

To get personal for a minute, about 2-3 months ago, we got access to Arnaud’s hugely overdelivering Village Gevrey. A winemaker friend of mine, whom I respect greatly (he’s made a lot of wines you drink!), and is VERY picky when it comes to Burgundy, just FLIPPED for the Village bottling, saying it was one of the best he had had in years.

So, to you, winemaker friend, and anyone else who loves great Burgundy from prime sites at EXTREME values (relatively, of course) --- BUY THESE NOW. Only the second vintage and an up-and-coming rockstar!! We might just point out this absolutely ridiculous price that we obtained on a wine that will go down as one of the greats of the vintage in retrospective tastings, we were just blown away. Read a bit more about Arnaud in the “About” tab on the site -- but just know we have about 3 case of each wine only! CRAZY PRICES!

About the Producer

Not content with just running the family estate (Domaine Denis Mortet), Arnaud Mortet created his own label. This exciting project was made possible by a retiring vigneron, who passed a four-hectare estate to him and his sister, Clemence. This is their inaugural vintage. Arnaud carries out all the vineyard work with his team to the same, exacting standards applied to the family vines, and then buys the fruit from the proprietor. Technically, this makes it a negociant business, but in reality he has 100% control of the vineyards and the winemaking. The four hectares are spread around Gevrey-Chambertin, the majority 50-year-old village vines, and then similarly old-vine plots across the Premiers Crus La Perriere and Lavaux St Jacques and Grands Crus Mazoyeres and Charmes.
