Familia Nin Ortiz Planetes de Nin Priorat 2016 - First Bottle

Reviews

95+ Robert Parker's Wine Advocate -
A 60/40 blend of Garnacha and Cariñena from the vineyard that names the wine, the 2016 Planetes de Nin saw a similar vinification and aging as the 2017 I tasted next to it, so the differences found were only due to the vintage and the moment of harvest. This is a fresher vintage, with tantalizing aromas that are subtle and elegant, with notes of violets and red cherries, nuanced and ever-changing in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied and nicely textured, with very fine tannins and fine chalky minerality. 9,108 bottles were filled in April 2017.

Too late, we are SOLD OUT!

When we got our tiny 2015 allocation last year, we knew it would sell out quick, but...dang! Seems a few more savvy people have discovered this incredible wine! Well, the luscious, savory 2016 just landed (with more points and an epic vintage), so if you know, you KNOW. Go get it! For the rest of you...

Nin Ortiz is somewhat of a “cult” producer in Priorat, so it’s quite lucky we happen to have any at all! 95+ points Wine Advocate priced like this? A partnership between Ester Nin and Carlos Ortiz, these brilliant, serious, sophisticated wines are biodynamically farmed, French oak-fermented and utterly COMPELLING, especially when you factor the pricing in. Just read the Wine Advocate notes below.

Trust us on this one -- you’ll want more the moment you taste it. We have, as noted, tremendous pricing today, as long as it lasts...

About the Producer

After obtaining a degree in Biology at the University of Barcelona then a subsequent degree in Enology, with an emphasis on biodynamic and organic viticulture, Ester Nin took a position at Mas Martinet in the village of Porrera in 2001. Raised in the Alt Penedes, she felt right at home in the Priorat and eventually became the viticulturist at Clos i Terrasses where she transitioned the vineyards to biodynamic farming. In 2004 Ester bought a 7 acre parcel of old vine Garnatxa and Carinyena in one of the highest sites in the Priorat. A few years earlier, Carles Ortiz from Barcelona, and a trained Enologist in his own right, had purchased 12 acres of vineyards outside of Porrera called Finca les Planetes. Both Carles and Ester were early proponents of biodynamics in the Priorat, both lived in Porrera and both were young and available and thus Familia Nin-Ortiz was born.
