Alma de Cattleya Pinot Noir Sonoma 2017 - First Bottle

Reviews

92 Jeb Dunnuck -
A classic, authentic Pinot Noir that brings the goods, the 2017 Pinot Noir has perfumed raspberry and strawberry fruits, forest floor, and spice notes as well a medium-bodied, layered, elegant style that shines on all accounts. It way over-delivers at the price.
91 Wine Enthusiast -
Editors Choice: This is a great taste of the freshness of Sonoma without the sticker shock, showing freshly pressed red berries, vanilla and wet slate on the nose. It's light in density on the sip, so the flavors of cranberry, carnation, wet earth and brown spice sail effortlessly across the palate.
90 Robert Parker's Wine Advocate -
Pale ruby purple in color, the 2017 Pinot Noir opens with Bing cherries, tart cranberry, blackberry, violet and tobacco leaf aromas with tangerine peel nuance. Light to medium-bodied, it’s fresh and soft in the mouth with crunchy red fruits and citrus accents, framed by soft, grainy tannins and juicy freshness to lift the finish. 1,600 cases produced.

Too late, we are SOLD OUT!
From rockstar Bibiana Gonzalez Rave (formerly of Pahlmeyer, Wayfarer and San Francisco Chronicle Winemaker of the Year) - nice scores, easy-drinking, crazy reasonable pricing! “Cattleya” is named after Colombia's national flower, where Bibiana was born and raised. While she cut her teeth in Bordeaux, she came to be the consulting winemaker at the prestigious Pahlmeyer and Wayfarer before going out on her own and starting Cattleya (and also Shared Notes, with her husband, Jeff Pisoni, who certainly knows his way around a barrel) in 2012. She is one of the up-and-coming superstars in the California wine industry and has made an outrageously delicious pinot which does in fact evoke crushed red flowers, lovely, polished fruit, whiffs of toasted spice, just impeccably balanced and ASTOUNDING at our price. Frankly, we don’t find this level of quality often under $30 in California anymore. This is a must buy for pinotphiles!

About the Producer

Born and raised in Colombia, Bibiana Gonzalez Ravehad little exposure to wine culture. But by the age of 14, she knew she would become a winemaker. In Colombia, she studied chemical engineering and business. She later moved to France to study viticulture and oenology. She earned a bachelor's degree at the University of Bordeaux, graduating with honors. In 2012, she created her first label, Cattleya, as an homage to her home country, naming it after the national flower of Colombia. Her newest venture is Alma de Cattleya.
