Walter Hansel Pinot Noir Estate 2017 - First Bottle

Reviews

94 Vinous -
The 2017 Pinot Noir The Estate Vineyard offers an intriguing combination of the raciness of the vintage, but with plenty of underlying structure and more than enough freshness to keep things in balance. Dark cherry, plum, spice and floral notes are all nicely delineated in this vibrant, super-expressive Pinot Noir from Hansel. I really like the energy here.
92 Robert Parker's Wine Advocate -
The 2017 Pinot Noir Estate, aged in 60% new François Frères barrels, is pale to medium ruby-purple and offers pretty aromas of spiced cranberry sauce, clove, dried orange peel and black tea leaves with shaved nutmeg, raspberry and strawberry preserves, blackberries and dried flowers. Medium-bodied and very silky with loads of ripe, spicy fruits, it has juicy acidity and soft, grainy tannins, finishing long and very spicy. Give this another couple years in bottle. 644 cases produced.

About the Producer

"My father, Walter, loved to grow everything from kiwi to oriental pears and more. In the 1970's he enlisted my help to plant 257 chardonnay vines. Throughout the 1980's our entire family would harvest the half acre of grapes and my father and I would make the wine; filling two barrels, which equaled 50 cases of wine. Since our first commercial vintage in 1996, I have learned with every harvest that you must listen to vine; react to Mother Nature and ALWAYS compromise quantity for quality." - Steven Hansel
