Herman Story Grenache On The Road 2016 - First Bottle

Reviews

96 Jeb Dunnuck -
Made from 100% Grenache aged a full 30 months in 70% new French oak, the deep ruby-colored 2016 On The Road is another full-bodied, concentrated, yet also pure and balanced wine from this talented winemaker. Blackberries, ground herbs, pepper, spice box, and licorice-laced black cherries all define the bouquet, and it hits the palate with a silky, expansive texture, no hard edges, and a great finish. It shows the pure, balanced, seamless style of this vintage beautifully. It's terrific today yet has the tannin, balance, and length to keep for 7-8 years.

Too late, we are SOLD OUT!

If you like a delicate, ethereal wine, you should just stop right here. Today’s missive is a flavor cannon of blackberry cobbler that explodes in your mouth. The wines of Herman Story are, as proprietor Russell From puts it, “no nonsense, balls to the walls wines that are not for the faint of heart or the pinky raising set.” Now, while subtlety and nuance may not be the first things that come to mind when drinking these wines, we were taken aback by the sense of balance and purity they display despite their massive scale and concentration. We couldn’t help but be reminded of the 2016 Clos Saint Jean Clos La Combe Des Fous when tasting this...it’s that good!

Blended to perfection from top sites from Paso Robles to Santa Barbara, this blend is pure Grenache from Bien Nacido (Santa Maria), Murmur (Santa Maria), Slide Hill (San Luis Obispo), Chelle Mountain (Paso Robles) and Shadow Canyon (Paso Robles). The name “On the Road”, and the fun-loving labels picturing motels along Highway 101, is derived from the 10,000 miles (it takes 4 hours to drive from Chelle Mountain to Santa Barbara Highlands!) per harvest that Russell puts on his truck. This labor of love is all about sourcing the best Grenache in the state no matter the cost.

As we said -- a no-brainer 6-pack buy at $299.70, all we can add is DO IT QUICK -- this wine is selling off of our website every few minutes...while it lasts…!

About the Producer

Proprietor and winemaker Russell P. From began Herman Story Wines in 2001 with 7 barrels stashed in his employer’s cellar. What started as a modest homage to his rancher grandfather has become a beacon to those seeking opulent, structured Syrah and Grenache. To maintain balance while giving flavor full stage, Russell works with 30 top-tier vineyards in over 7 distinct growing regions between Santa Barbara and Paso Robles. These are no nonsense, balls to the walls wines that are not for the faint of heart or the pinky raising set.
