Fratelli Alessandria Barolo Movigliero 2015 - First Bottle

Reviews

96+ Robert Parker's Wine Advocate -
Monvigliero in the Verduno township is quickly becoming one of the most celebrated and talked about crus in Barolo. The Fratelli Alessandria estate was among the first to understand its potential, and indeed, this wine was first released in 1978. Fast forward to today and you will find that the 2015 Barolo Monvigliero is an absolutely classic interpretation that stays faithful to past incarnations. The wine offers pretty berry aromas intermingled with spice, licorice and crushed stone. A floral aroma of red rose also appears. The tannins are solid and will require extra years of bottle aging.

Fratelli Alessandria Barolo Movigliero 2015

Nebbiolo  |  Italy

Too late, we are SOLD OUT!

Fratelli Alessandria does not contract any fruit, they own and farm everything themselves. The crown jewel of their holdings is one of the most heralded sites in the north, Movigliero. The vines here are over 30 years old and sit at an elevation of just under 1,000 feet. The vines face south and produce Barolo that is austere and ethereal in its youth and will age for decades.

We are freshly back from the Barolo region (less than a week ago) and we can say with confidence that the ‘15 vintage is shaping up beautifully. Now in bottle and beginning their slow evolution, they are just being released and NOW is the time to snag them while prices are still relatively affordable. Additionally, these JUST got the big scores, so they are getting snapped up by savvy collectors hyper-quick.

Verduno, in the far north of the Barolo zone, is on fire right now and Fratelli Alessandria is leading the charge. These wines, even in a warm growing season like 2015, have so much energy to balance out the gorgeous ripe berry fruits and anisette flavors. There is just so much to love in these wines, they come with our highest recommendation. Mixing and matching a case of these gems is an absolute must for Barolo lovers. FIRST COME, FIRST SERVED…!

About the Producer

At the northern edge of the Barolo zone, the Alessandria family, since the mid-19th century, has called this gentle landscape home. In 1870, when the family first established their farm, calling it Fratelli Alessandria, Verduno was the center of Barolo winemaking—it was here where families first crafted dry Nebbiolo wines in the style we know today. Today Verduno is experiencing a renaissance, and it is the “brothers” Alessandria who are guiding the wines of Verduno back to the heights they once held. It is of course a family affair—the brothers Gian Battista and Alessandro, and Alessandro’s son, Vittore, are the stewards of this generations-old estate.
