Domaine Fontaine-Gagnard Chassagne-Montrachet 2017 - First Bottle

Reviews

90 Robert Parker's Wine Advocate -
A cuvee that was produced from 1.7 hectares around the village and saw 20% new wood, the 2017 Chassagne-Montrachet Village exhibits pretty aromas of white flowers, lime zest, pear and subtle oak vanillin. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, satiny and succulent, with nice concentration, an open and expressive core and a precise, chalky finish. This will drink very well out of the gates given its charming but classic profile.

The heart and soul of Domaine Fontaine-Gagnard are their Chassagne-Montrachets, of which they own a fine clutch of premier crus as well as the grand crus of Criots-Bâtard-Montrachet, Bâtard-Montrachet and Montrachet itself. This 2017 is beautifully balanced, rich yet polished and fine, with zesty minerality and stone fruits -- we love the way it glides across the palate.

Only 10 cases to sell -- Burg-heads, this is a fantastic opportunity! While it lasts..!

About the Producer

The historic Domaine Fontaine-Gagnard has its origin in the fine Gagnard-Delagrange holdings of fifty years ago, as the vineyards hail from the marriage of Richard Fontaine to Jacques Gagnard’s oldest daughter Laurence Gagnard in 1982. Today, the domaine is managed by the intuitive and graceful Céline Fontaine. The heart and soul of the domaine are their Chassagne-Montrachets, of which they own a fine clutch of premier crus and vines also in the grand crus of Criots-Bâtard-Montrachet, Bâtard-Montrachet and Montrachet itself. The style of the wines is intense, deep and complex. They are Chassagnes that start out life as classically balanced and accessible, but always with fine expressions of terroir and the underlying structure to age gracefully as well.
