Telmo Rodriguez Pegaso Granito Sierra de Gredos 2012 - First Bottle

Reviews

92 Robert Parker's Wine Advocate -
The 2012 Pegaso Granito ferments in a combination of stainless steel vats and large (2,000- to 3,000-liter!) old terracotta amphorae (from 1880!), and the wines always have a faint earthy character. 2012 was very dry year, but July was not that warm, and July is the month that marks the vintages more. It was a slow ripening year, and the wine has a harmonious nose and good freshness, but ultimately, tasted next to the slate cuvee, this doesn't seem to have the same depth in the palate. 5,990 bottles produced.

What?! Pegaso Granito priced ANYTHING like this is a wicked score. 50% off 100+ year-old vines, huge critical acclaim year after year and just $149.70 a 6-PACK with free shipping! ZING!

All the cool Spanish aficionados know the great wines of Pablo Eguzkiza and Telmo Rodríguez, as they are famous since the 90s for recovering long lost, forgotten vineyards across Spain. The Pegaso Granito is harvested from VERY old vines at high altitudes with mineral-laden soils, and then fermented partially in very old, jumbo terracotta amphorae (from 1880!). This fascinating, small production, hand-crafted wine is a masterpiece of a wine at our price today. One of the gems of Spain! Please don’t miss it!

Did we mention $161.70 a 6-PACK delivered? Amazing.

Pure, minerally strawberry fruit, anise, earthy notes and spiced cranberry, all in a rich, lively, complex texture. The Amphorae have a way maintining freshness and highlighting minerality, which lifts up flavors...so good! Never to be seen again priced anything like this!
