Domaine Anne Gros Richebourg Grand Cru 2017 - First Bottle

Reviews

92-94 Vinous -
The 2017 Richebourg Grand Cru, matured in one-third new oak, has a precise bouquet with brambly red fruit, crushed stone, peony and a sprinkle of white pepper. It opens nicely in the glass but it never manifests the intensity of other Richebourgs this vintage. The palate is medium-bodied with filigreed tannins and the acidity is beautifully pitched. It appears to be an unapologetically refined Richebourg that should drink well over the next two decades, maybe without grabbing the headlines.
92-94 Robert Parker's Wine Advocate -
The 2017 Richebourg Grand Cru reveals a lovely bouquet of Asian spices, plums, raspberries and rose petal, with only subtle hints of the savory nuances of soil and espresso to come with bottle age. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, ample and fleshy, with satiny tannins and a broad, open-knit profile. This is a precocious, dramatic Richebourg in the making, and while it will never rival the depth and concentration Gros achieved in 2016 and 2015, it will certainly turn heads in its youth.

Too late, we are SOLD OUT!

18 bottles to sell and that’s IT. How we got any is a miracle! The mighty Richebourg, from a plot located in Les Verroilles ou Richebourg, just below the A.F. Gros rows and right above the DRC plot ($3,500+/btl.) and also adjacent to Leroy ($5,000+/btl.), which is just to the north! First come, first served!

Anne Gros’ Richebourg is a wine that the savviest of you buy every year. And if you are lucky enough to find any year in and year out, you’ll know that our price is as good as it gets. This will likely go on to trade closer to 4 digits per bottle if past vintages are any indication. Legendary in its power and ageability, we love the way that Anne explains her Richebourg: “...an extraordinary wine in that it combines power with supreme elegance. We often describe it as a peacock’s tail. The silky, velvetiness of the tannins is complemented by a minerality which adds powerful depth and makes this grand cru one of the most sensual and complex wines.

Indeed -- this a treasure. Mix and match some other Burgundy, if you like, to get the free shipping on 6, but whatever you do -- get some.

We are one of the very first in the country to have this wine in house! Rock and roll!

About the Producer

Anne Gros took over her father’s winery (Domaine François Gros) in the late 1980s. Yet there have been Gros family members in Vosne since the 1830s; land holdings have split among family members for generations. Today, there are four separate wineries in Vosne owned by the extended Gros family.
