Donelan Syrah Cuvee Christine 2015 - First Bottle

Reviews

95 Jeb Dunnuck -
From a blend of Kobler, Lawer, and Steiner vineyards, the 2015 Syrah Cuvée Christine offers a northern Rhône bouquet of black olives, bacon fat, smoked earth and meaty, peppery notes. It’s medium to full-bodied, beautifully balanced, and layered, with a killer finish. It’s another awesome Sonoma County Syrah from this team.
94+ Vinous -
The 2015 Syrah Cuvée Christine is dense, pliant and super-expressive, with striking aromatics, vivid fruit and fabulous overall balance. The tannins are a bit forbidding today, but all the elements are in place for the 2015 to develop effortlessly. Sage, leather, tobacco and incense add an exotic element to the dark blue/purplish fruit in this alluring, sensual Syrah. This is a very sexy wine from Donelan.
92 Robert Parker's Wine Advocate -
Medium to deep garnet-purple in color, the 2015 Syrah Cuvee Christine rocks up with gregarious blackberry preserves, blueberry pie and warm plums notes with touches of star anise, cloves, Sichuan pepper and charcuterie plus a waft of wild thyme. Medium to full-bodied, the palate delivers mouth-filling black and blue fruits with tons of spicy sparks, finishing very long and savory.

Too late, we are SOLD OUT!
Have you discovered this brilliant wine yet? (We sold the 96-point Kobler Vineyard ‘14 a few months back, and sold out quick). If you know, you know. These are superb, full-throttle, hugely overdelivering wines. Hardcores only need apply! 95 points!

Can we just tell you how freaking awesome this Syrah is? This is a world-class, cellar-worthy, mouth-salivating, euphoria-inducing, jaw-dropping, hedonist nectar that should not be missed. AND THE PRICE?!  KILLER! This is simply a BLAST to drink and geek out on as it opens up and evolves. Very much like a “modern” Cote Rotie from a warm vintage (think 2015), it’s loaded with blue/purple fruit intensity and earthy minerality that we just don’t encounter very often. Seriously, WOW!

Joe Donelan and Pax Mahle started Pax back in 2000, now renamed Donelan. The winery kept the original style of bold, intense but balanced wines from excellent vineyards such as Syrah sourced from the Kobler Vineyard in the Green Valley of Russian River, the Lawer Vineyard in Knight’s Valley and Steiner Ranch on Sonoma Mountain, which are the three sites that make up this fantastic wine. This is tiny production, almost exclusively sold via mailing list --- EXCEPT TODAY! Super limited and only available here! Free shipping on three or more bottles!

SERIOUS stuff! FIRST COME, FIRST SERVED…!

About the Producer

Joe Donelan began his journey of wine discovery in the 1980s, led by an inspired sommelier at Toppers Restaurant on Nantucket. His love of wine soon led him on a journey to California, where he established a wine business that is now called Donelan Family Wines. Today, Donelan is sold primarily through their mailing list and the rest graces the tables of the finest restaurant lists across the country.
