Chateau Clinet Pomerol 2016
We tasted with Clinet here at our Napa offices a few months back and were pretty much speechless about both the ‘15 and ‘16. Clinet, like many Bordeaux producers these days, are reeling back the new oak use a bit and easing back into something a little more “traditional” with a focus on freshness, and (WOW!) these wines are utterly beguiling, sexy, pure and brilliant. Seriously, if you buy one Bordeaux or Pomerol wine from us this year, BUY THIS. Off the charts!!
Dating back to 1595, Clinet is notable for having a (relatively for Pomerol, anyway) large percentage of Cabernet Sauvignon planted, and it contributes to the wines overall sense of power and intensity. Located close to the church, Chateau Clinet has a special parcel of Merlot known as “La Grand Vigne,” that is their best terroir, and adds unique depth and complexity to the wine. This is also where you find their oldest vines, planted in 1934!
Really, profoundly, astonishingly fine Pomerol from a world-class vintage. Check out the rave reveiws below. Please do not miss, we have 60 bottles to sell! FIRST COME, FIRST SERVED…!
About the Producer
Clinet is home to one of the oldest vineyards in the appellation, with traces of the vineyard's existence dating back to 1595. Ronan Laborde began to manage the Clinet estate in 2004, which has been in his family since 1999. He along with the rest of the Clinet 'family' has been engaged in substantial transformations: replanting, developing environmentally-friendly practices, rebuilding the winemaking facilities and reorganizing Clinet's distribution.
