Selbach-Oster Riesling Zeltinger Schlossberg Spatlese 2016 - First Bottle

Reviews

94 James Suckling -
A juicy and salty wine from this seriously underrated top site. How can a wine be this succulent and filigree? It tastes weightless and super-ripe all at once. Best before you die!
93 Robert Parker's Wine Advocate -
The 2016 Zeltinger Schlossberg Riesling Spätlese (AP 19 17) opens with its typical coolish-flinty and spicy bouquet that indicates a lovely ripeness and transparency. On the palate, this is an enormously lush, piquant and salty Schlossberg with grip, salt and tension. Extremely dangerous since you probably cannot stop drinking once you have started.
92 Wine Spectator -
Precise and well-structured, with lots of mineral details and a firm backbone of acidity supporting the ripe pear and apricot tart flavors. Saffron notes emerge on the long and well-defined finish. Drink now through 2034. 139 cases imported.

33% off today, people! A MUST for zesty, piquant drinking joy over the next decade! Wow! Selbach-Oster is one of the finest and oldest family run Estates in the Mosel, dating back to 1600. If you had to sum up Selbach’s wines in just a few words they would be ‘brilliant, complex, classic, and balanced’. These are classic wines both the way that they taste (balanced and less “sweet”) and in the way that they’re produced; grapes are gently pressed at low pressure; the juice settles by gravity and is then fermented in naturally cool cellars at low temperatures, predominantly in traditional oak Fuder with wild yeasts. They also have a huge portion of own-rooted vines, over 32 acres to be exact, which represent more than half of their holdings. According to Dr. Ulli Stein, there are less than 150 acres of own-rooted vines in all of Germany! The deep roots of own-rooted vines tap into something that vines planted to rootstocks just cannot access and they produce wines that are more expressive of the terroir.

This wine is crunchy, mineral, lightly sweet with brilliant, tangy acidity. Just read the heaps of praise below (JS94, WA93, WS92)...for $19.95!! FIRST COME, FIRST SERVED! Happy Friday indeed! Here are some our favorite quotes about today's wine..."Extremely dangerous since you probably cannot stop drinking once you have started...best before you die." So true!

About the Producer
