Too late, we are SOLD OUT!

The finest Sancerres come from special flint-rich soils known as Silex, and Michel Thomas’ best vineyards, within view of the hill-top town itself, epitomize the style. Thomas' top bottling is made in miniscule quantities (400-500 cases every year), and only a fraction of that ever hits the states! It’s grown in primarily Silex soils but blended with two other soil types, Terre Blanche and limestone, for additional depth and complexity. This combines fruit from their very best vineyards and blocks of their sprawling 42 acres under vine. The lots are then blended to perfection, creating a textbook example of the greatness of Sancerre.

With the rapid price creep in Sancerre over the past 10 years, compounded by 25% tariffs enacted in the fall, finding world class sauvignon blanc from this neck of the woods is going to get real tricky. This is the last of the pre-tariff parcel we brought in last spring. Rich and racy with green apple, classic citrus minerality and ‘gun-flint’ character, and even a hint of tropicality to add to the layers of interest. The hallmarks of this wine are aromatic intensity and concentration, which the '17 delivers in spades.

We are one of the very few in the USA to even HAVE this wine -- the vast majority of it is consumed in France and Japan. THAT’S why we jumped on this opportunity - we’re always on the hunt! While it lasts...!

About the Producer

Michel Thomas and his son Laurent took over the estate in 1970 from Michel's father, who started in 1946. They export 65-70% of their production, mainly to Japan and Russia. Today they farm 40 parcels located in four villages, totaling 42 acres, about 70% Sauvignon Blanc and 30% Pinot Noir.
