The Fattoria dei Barbi 2012 Brunello di Montalcino offers a clear and bright quality of fruit. This wine really hits the high notes better than most others in its class. Stefano Cinelli Colombini and his team have done a fine job with this Brunello annata. Beyond the dark cherry and cassis are elegant tones of dried herb, tar and rose petal. The bouquet reaches harmony and finesse. In fact, you'd hardly know just how warm this summer growing season was because the fruit appears not to have suffered one bit. The tannins are delicate and silky.

Barbi’s “Blue Label” Brunello is the heart of the estate’s production and its flagship bottling. The family has been producing Brunello from this vineyard since 1892, southeast of Montalcino proper, in one of the most lovely parts in all this world (right down the road from Biondi Santi we might add). To quote Wine Spec: “You can almost smell the countryside in this expressive red”, and if you’ve ever been lucky enough to experience the Tuscan countryside, well, you just KNOW. About the Producer
Fattoria dei Barbi is among a prestigious group of estates that has played an integral part in writing the history of Italian wine. In fact, the estate is one of only five in Montalcino that have continuously operated for over 100 years. The Colombini family, one of region's most influential families, founded the estate in 1790. The estate is currently owned and managed by the 20th generation heir, Stefano Cinelli Colombini, who carries on constantly seeking innovation through research and the application of new techniques.
