Chateau Monbousquet Saint Emilion Grand Cru 2015 - First Bottle

Reviews

95 Wine Spectator -
Wine Spectator #16 Top 100 Wines of 2018: A rich, expressive, slightly showy style, with waves of cassis, creamed raspberry and boysenberry fruit racing forth, backed by a polished yet ample structure. The long, licorice- and ganache-framed finish packs on weight as it moves along, yet stays defined and pure. Impressive. Best from 2022 through 2040. 9,333 cases made"- JM
95 James Suckling -
A rich and round wine with beautiful fruit and chocolate, meat and berry character. Full body and a juicy finish. Hard not to drink now as it’s so delicious. But wait. Drink in 2020 onwards.

The 2015 Monbousquet is dark and powerful from the outset. Rich, layered and voluptuous in feel, it captures all the radiance of the vintage. Black cherry, plum, espresso, licorice and chocolate all flesh out in the glass. Sumptuous, racy and intense, the 2015 has a lot to offer. In this vintage, the two wines from the property are relatively close in style. I prefer to drink Monbousquet on the earlier side.

Too late, we are SOLD OUT!
Wow! ‘15 Monbousquet (DBL 95pts.) under $60! Wine Spectator’s #16 of 2018 to boot! This is SULTRY, powerful, opulent Saint-Emilion...a head-turner at a great price! As you savvy Bordeaux buyers will likely know, Monbousquet is owned by Gerard Perse, the man behind Saint-Emilion rock stars Chateau Pavie, Bellevue Mondotte and Pavie-Decesse. Monbousquet, which was elevated to Grand Cru Classé in 2006, is a massive over-performer at this price. Double 95 POINTS, c’mon!

As we said, this is sultry, hedonistic St. Emilion, with rich textures and powerful structure. This would be a VERY cool wine to insert in a blindtasting of top Bordeaux, or even many Napa Valley wines. Pretty sexy stuff to drink now, but this also has the tannin structure to age for a decade with ease.

We direct-imported this for an excellent price --- $59.95! Check out the rave reviews below. ONLY 10 CASES!

About the Producer

In 1993, Chantal and Gérard Perse purchased Monbousquet and in the months after Gérard Perse’s arrival, production standards at Monbousquet were completely revised both in the vineyard and in the cellars. His efforts were soon recognized and in 2006 Monbousquet was promoted to the rank of a Grand Cru Classé.
