Gros Ventre Pinot Noir Campbell Ranch 2016 - First Bottle

Reviews

95 Vinous -
The 2016 Pinot Noir Campbell Ranch is a dark, brooding wine. Blue/purplish fruit, lavender and spice notes are pushed forward. There is a good bit of up-front fruit and overall intensity, but the 2016 could use another year or two in bottle to allow the tannins to soften. Even so, this Campbell Ranch is quite attractive. It is also one of the most compelling wines in a superb lineup from Chris Pittenger.

Too late, we are SOLD OUT!
Chris released a few cases for us after some pleading last week and we are thrilled that is just landed in our chilly warehouse! This is one of my favorite Sonoma Coast sites that may not have the reputation of some of its neighbors, but in due time, this will be one of the top sites in the AVA without question. This is deep, concentrated pinot with gorgeous forest floor and an edge of savory candy cap mushroom, but with the backbone to stand the test of time in the cellar. It's rich and ripe and dark fruited now so it will be tough to resist holding off, but in a few years it will begin to blossom. This is a top notch effort from Chris Pittenger.

About the Producer

Founded by Sarah and Chris Pittenger in 2009, Gros Ventre Cellars is a small, family-owned winery operating out of Healdsburg, CA. Chris has an enviable CV with names like Robert Biale, Torbreck, Williams Selyem, Marcassin, Skinner and currently Limerick Lane and his vast experience leads to some killer wines. Focusing on vineyard-designated pinot noir from the West Sonoma Coast and Anderson Valley, and several wines from the El Dorado region, Chris is on fire right now!
