Reviews

94 James Suckling -
The vibrant and complex aromas of white and yellow peaches lead into a succulent and elegant palate with a lot of energy. Very long and powerful, salty-mineral finish.

Too late, we are SOLD OUT!

So there I was, tasting through a bazillion wines like I do every day, and then I got struck by lightning. THIS is Fiano? The Campania grape? But...but...it's like white Burgundy! It's freakin' amazing! Crazy complex, amazing acidity...man, I gotta know more. Turns out, there is quite a story. This is one of Italy's great white wines, so it's a treat to have some to sell!! It's going in my cellar!

Luigi Moio is the master behind this wine. A producer, researcher, master teacher, and counselor who has inspired the efforts of many of the most important houses of Italy’s south and has become, in his own right, the creator of some of the area’s most exquisite wines, both red and white. His collaborations with other wineries in southern Italy, many of whom – thanks to his gifted advice and leadership – became very significant names in this part of the country. He also spent most of the 1990s getting his PhD studying the scientific aspects of wine aromas (that becomes obvious as soon as you stick your nose in the glass of this gloriously perfumed wine!). But, like many other big-time oenologists, the not so secret desire to become a producer was always part of his plans, which took concrete form in the Campania region’s most historic and prestigious zone, Irpinia in the province of Avellino in 2001.

This wine is amazingly intense without being heavy or cloying, displaying such deep, vivid varietal and volcanic terroir character with a saline and smoky minerality. Frighteningly good. Get a few and see for yourself!

Single-vineyard, organically farmed Fiano. Exultet is a sophisticated and elegant interpretation of Fiano di Avellino. Yellow and luminous with green reflections and fragrances of linden, acacia and thyme, this is well structured with flavors of exotic fruit, citrus, sage, acacia blossoms, honey and a very soft mineral note. It is a wine with great longevity which can age for some decades thanks to its richness and structure.

$59.95 but $51.95 on 4 or more bottles, PLUS free shipping on all orders. Astounding!

Beautiful 6-pack wood case on request!

About the Producer

Quintodecino Winemaker Luigi Moio learned a lot during his time in Burgundy in the early 1990s, where he completed a PhD studying the scientific aspects of wine aromas, but also owes much to his Campanian wine heritage. Moio’s father Michele was also a producer and, in the 1950s, revived the ancient Falernian wine style, a favorite of the ancient Romans. After Luigi's studies in Burgundy, he moved back home and started his iconic winery in Irpinia in 2001, which would become a benchmark in the region and in Italy.
