I can say this without hyperbole...Sancerre is the hardest wine region to keep in stock these days. Even at Paris’ VinExpo this spring – the hundreds of producer booths throughout the giant expo hall dedicated to the Loire Valley – all started posting signs informing buyers that there was simply no Sancerre to be had. We moved heaven and earth to get this bottling at such an epic price – under $30 for hyper fresh, ORGANIC, Sancerre? And dropping to under $25 on six? Oh, yes!

Domaine Fleuriet is a relatively new producer for the region, with their holdings in Sancerre and nearby Menetou-Salon extending back to just 1991. They’ve accomplished wonders in a short few decades, with 20 hectares of prime Sancerre plots on a sloping hillside loaded with the region’s revered flint, limestone, and alluvial pebble soils. Aging in concrete tank keeps everything crunchy and lively as classic Sancerre should be – and we’re thrilled to have found a new producer of our favorite sauvignon blanc region in the world!

Bernard Flueriet manages the estate with his two sons, Mathieu and Benoit. They work diligently on their land and have always pushed for sustainable efforts that are rewarded in the wine’s final complexity. The estate was awarded with a certificate for their organic agriculture beginning in 2016, with full Demeter (biodynamic) certification following in 2021. They vinify with minimal intervention in order to let the terroir express itself (indigenous yeasts, spontaneous fermentations, limited use of sulfur, etc.), and this classic, purely expressive Sancerre blanc is the happy result!

The wine showcases a glorious medley of citrus fruits and flowers – lemons, mandarin blossoms, Ruby Red grapefruits, and pomelo, with accentuating flavors of green apple, crushed river rocks, and a salty sea breeze note on the crisp and crunchy finish. Plenty of bright acidity keeps your mouth watering, and if you have a dozen oysters or a fresh green salad – all the better! This is simply tremendous for Sancerre at all manner of price points – but with our UNDER $25 offer on six bottles or more – this is just unreal. I’m grabbing a case...Sancerre of this quality, at this price...welp, these days that is about as rare as it gets!

PAIRING IDEAS: I’m craving sushi. If you’re ever up in Sonoma – do yourself a favor and take a detour to Hana, just off the 101 in Rohnert Park. It’s an unassuming space, but trust me, one step in the door and you are whisked away to some of the most authentic and delicious sushi in the entire Bay Area. Pour a taste for your chef and put your faith in his excellent hands.

About the Producer

Since its establishment in 1991, the Domaine has diligently cultivated vineyards across 20 hectares of gently sloping and fallow terrain within the esteemed Sancerre appellation. Additionally, they have meticulously nurtured 3 hectares in Menetou-Salon. This expansive vineyard is strategically distributed across 35 plots, strategically positioned on the three significant Sancerrois terroirs, benefiting from the optimal sun exposure of south and southeast-facing hillsides. The composition of the land is a true testament to the typicity and diversity of the Sancerre region, featuring a well-balanced distribution of soil types. Approximately 10% of the vineyard is comprised of Flint soil, imparting distinctive characteristics. The majority, about 50%, is Caillottes, rich in limestone, contributing to the wine's unique profile. Additionally, 40% of the land boasts the white soil variety, collectively fostering a remarkable blending complexity and elegant subtlety in the wines produced by this esteemed winery.
