Domaine Robert Gibourg Morey St. Denis Clos de la Bidaude Monopole 2017

Pinot Noir  |  France

Too late, we are SOLD OUT!
We are SO lucky to have snagged a small parcel of this savvy Burg-head buy from an under-the-radar (for now) producer! Clos de la Bidaude is directly above the grand cru Clos des Lambrays! Terrific juice at this superb price! Under $50 for 4 or more bottles!

It’s extremely rare to even SEE this wine in the American market -- we are the ONLY retailer in the country to have the 2017 (that’s why we go to France a couple times a year!). Exceedingly well-priced, we might add! We live for cool little discoveries like this!

The first of the killer 2017s to land! The 2017 vintage was an ideal growing season that was relatively uneventful in the best possible way. After the devastating frost and later mildew of 2016, and the string of several short vintages, an uneventful growing season was a breath of fresh air for everyone in the region. The harvest allowed for ideal conditions for a beautiful crop that produced exciting, ripe and exuberant wines.

Location is everything in Burgundy, knowing the terroir is paramount to finding value hiding in plain site. The climat Clos de la Bidaude is a "monopole" vineyard (solely controlled by Gibourg) directly adjacent to the grand cru vineyard, Clos des Lambrays, a vineyard that fetches $260+ per bottle and a pitching wedge from the grand cru Clos de Tart ($450+).

This is what we like to call a wolf in sheep's clothing! Such a killer value when you consider the neighborhood! From a vineyard planted by the winery in 1993, as this site matures, it produces more and more exciting flavors and complexities - this stuff is rockin'! Don't miss...tiny allocation!

About the Producer

Robert Gibourg, born in 1942, inherited about two-and-a-half acres of very old vines from his parents in the Cote de Nuits and from his grandfather in the Cote de Beaune.

In 1975 Robert Gibourg married Marie Therese, whose family was a made wine in Ladoix. In 1976, Marie Therese’s uncle retired and Robert Gibourg has been farming his parcels under metayage (sharecropping) ever since, including parcels in Ladoix, Aloxe Corton including a small amount of Grand Cru Corton Renardes.
