WaterMark Cabernet Sauvignon Mt. Veeder 2014 - First Bottle

Reviews

94 Robert Parker's Wine Advocate -
Made of 100% Cabernet, the 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Mt. Veeder has a deep garnet-purple color and slowly evolving scents of incense and stewed tea over cr?me de cassis, black berry preserves, earth, lavender and bay leaves. Medium to full-bodied with great intensity and depth, the lively palate has firm, grainy tannins and finishes very long with a menthol lift.

Too late, we are SOLD OUT!

If you buy ONE Cabernet from us this year, PLEASE, with all the urgency we can muster, BUY THIS. $75!!! Diamond Creek winemaker Phil Steinschriber (who just received his first 100 from Wine Advocate) makes a MICROSCOPIC few barrels of this deeply concentrated, fantastically layered, wonderful wine from Mt. Veeder. A MUST -- for the bragging rights alone!! We’re totally blown away. Really.

** This is a long one --- my suggestion is to get some locked in and come back and read all my blathering (there is precious little to sell…). TRUST ME!! $75 will be your most well-spent on Napa Cabernet EVER.

I’m truly a kid in a candy store today. Wow! It’s like striking gold or something. We stumbled on this a few weeks ago and I have been trembling with anticipation to offer it (I’m a little embarrased it took me this long, really). Now let me say first that I am a die-hard Diamond Creek fan. Any of you who’ve had an epic bottle (now running $200+ for the current releases and $350+ for the old ones), KNOW how special this place is, how incredibly the wines age, and the insane depth of mountain concentration and complexity they exhibit.

Now, these wines have been made by one man for many decades...Phil Steinschriber, a guy you don’t see in glossy magazines, or at trade shows, or getting videoed by Instagrammers. No, not even close. I have only even met his wife (who sold us a little of this wine). They farm a small vineyard on Mount Veeder and we were able to taste the jaw-droppingly terrific 2014 (and buy it). There is virtually NONE to be had, and it is quite hard to find so we bought all we could.

SO --- this is $75. BUY. IT. BUY IT. Hear me? Deep, dark, blue/black Cabernet, screaming out its song of blackcurrant purity from the mountaintop!! A bit more open and slightly less tightly wound than Diamond Creek usually is, but it is SO deep and layered -- I spent many hours going back again and again to see all the sides of this mellow beast. I just love it. I can’t wait to drink it in 2024, 2029 and into 2039. Anyway, a classic Napa Cab, tannic but in just the right way, not too oaky, well, seriously, you know the DC style, right? This is an awesome find for drinking, cellaring, and I personally can’t wait to stick this in a blind tasting. I mean -- who HAS this??? US!! Please, just grab at least three for free shipping!

About the Producer
