Three generations of winemaking and just 12 hectares in Côtes du Rhône have brought us this ultra-fresh, super cool, BEAUTY. Could this be the wine of the summer? At over 50% OFF retail– we think so.

The Serguier family has been growing and producing for over 100 years in Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Today, Serguier is run by founder Hippolyte Serguier’s grandson, Daniel Serguier, and his wife Aurélie, who have expanded their vineyards out to the Rhone and Lirac appellations. It’s a family operation that should be on your CdP radar...if you don’t know, now you know.

The blend is 65% grenache blanc, 25% clairette blanc, 10% roussanne, bourboulenc and viognier. The fruit is picked early off of 35-year-old vines and fermented at cool temperatures to ensure that crisp freshness– and boy does it deliver. We’re catching notes of Concorde pear, dried apricots, and golden delicious apples that follow onto the palate along with rainier cherries, Meyer lemon, Carolina pineberries, and baking spice that lead to a long, smoky finish. Refreshing, but definitely not dainty– an elevated porch sipper at its finest!

No ratings yet, but you’ll just have to trust us– it’s just that good. We got all we could, but it’s still never enough! These are ready to throw back, and they’re good to cellar for the next couple of years. The wise (ahem, yours truly) will get a case now and cellar half for later, but good luck waiting that long...

PAIRING IDEAS: Make some tapas and keep them coming. I’m thinking spicy grilled gambas al ajillo and even seared scallops with chorizo. Get that old-fashioned ocean sustenance while you still can!

About the Producer

The SERGUIER estate was established in the late 19th century by Hippolyte Serguier who later passed it on to his sons, one of whom was Gaston Serguier. It later passed to Gaston’s grandson (photo). Daniel took over the estate in 1997 – almost 100 years after its founder. Historically made up of 6.5 hectares of vines across almost 14 plots in the Châteauneuf du Pape AOC, the Serguier estate cultivates a mosaic of terroirs which provides a rich source of inspiration. Daniel’s wife Aurélie joined the family business in 2015. The acquisition of vines in the Côtes du Rhône and Lirac appellations extended the vineyard, taking the area of the estate to 12 hectares. All members of the family are involved in this new project, creating wines which reflect our traditions.
