Mount Eden Chardonnay Estate Santa Cruz Mountains 2015 - First Bottle

Reviews

95 Jeb Dunnuck -
The 2015 Chardonnay Estate comes all from the estate vineyard and mostly from a block of vines planted in 1990. Aged in 50% new oak, it’s another brilliant Chardonnay from Jeffrey Patterson that has a rich, concentrated, classic style as well as ample honeyed minerality, orchard fruits, and hints of brioche and toasted spice. Pure, medium to full-bodied and impeccably balanced, you can enjoy bottles today or cellar for 10-15 years, if you’re so inclined.
93 Wine Enthusiast -
This classic bottling is still a baby and needs plenty of time to open. When it does, aromas of toasted hazelnuts, light oak, lemon pith and exotic apples show on the nose. The palate combines oak smoke with savory sea salt and sumptuous golden apple fruits. Drink 2019–2030.
92 Wine Spectator -
Deeply hued and very rich, with notes of beeswax and light smoke to the ripe pear, apple and Marcona almond flavors. The vividly structured finish shows lots of mineral and spice components and plenty of vanillin details. Drink now through 2021. 1,807 cases made.

Too late, we are SOLD OUT!

Please -- trust your wine merchant on this: YOU NEED THIS CHARD. Spectacular juice, from vines planted in 1990...truly addictive, wonderful, classic Chardonnay! BALANCE. It’s so important in all wines, but when you get into Burgundy and “Burgundy-styled” American wines, it’s what sets them apart. This has it in SPADES. Rich and concentrated but also weightless, this fabulous wine just glides over your palate. SO. GOOD. We drank a bottle of this last night and it was drained by two people in like 20 minutes. Outrageously good.

Mount Eden is a winery that does not get a lot of attention...and that’s a good thing for people in the know. More great wine for us! At 2000 feet above Silicon Valley, the winery actually dates back to 1945 and has the longest history of Estate bottled Pinot and Chard in California! This is the stuff of legend! The emphasis is on wine growing rather than winemaking; and an obsession with gentleness and naturalness in the cellar, Jeffrey Patterson's wines are full of nuance and subtlety. What a roaring success with this wine!

Listen -- this magic elixir is only $59.95, but $49.95 on 3 or more. Compared this price to an average 1er cru bottling in Burgundy, and you start to realize what a steal this is. Wow! That is $359.70 a 6-pack shipping included! We think it’s madness to pass this one up...while it lasts...!

About the Producer

Mount Eden Vineyards is a small historic wine estate perched at 2000 feet overlooking Silicon Valley in the Santa Cruz Mountain Appellation, about 50 miles south of San Francisco. Founded in 1945, it is recognized as one of the original boutique California wineries, focusing on small lots of Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon. Mount Eden's lineage of estate bottled Chardonnay and Pinot Noir is the longest in California. Since 1981 Jeffrey Patterson has guided the winemaking and grape growing at Mount Eden. His emphasis is on wine growing rather than winemaking; and an obsession with gentleness and naturalness in the cellar, his wines are full of nuance and subtlety.
