Halcon Petite Sirah Theopolis Vineyard Tierra Yorkville Highlands 2016 - First Bottle

Reviews

96 Jeb Dunnuck -
The 2016 Petite Sirah Tierra Theopolis Vineyard is another straight up fabulous barrel sample from Paul Gordon. Its deep ruby/purple color is followed by gorgeous notes of black raspberries, lavender, flowers, and honeysuckle. Perfumed, elegant and already surprisingly forward, it still packs tons of fruit and richness on the palate, with vibrant acidity and a great finish. 93-96
93 Robert Parker's Wine Advocate -
The 2016 Petite Sirah Tierra from Halcón is a lovely example of this quintessentially Californian variety, wafting from the glass with aromas of rosemary, sage, crushed currants and wild plum. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, richly tannic and succulent, with a long, sappy finish. Paul Gordon has managed to avoid Petite Sirah's proclivity to overbearing structure, as well as capturing wonderful chaparral-like aromas and flavors (California's answer to herbes de Provence?) to complement the wine's rich fruit. At 14.1% natural alcohol, this is the highest octane of Halcón's offerings, but it retains excellent balance.
92 Vinous -
The 2016 Tierra (Petite Sirah) is another super-expressive wine from Halcón. Game, black pepper, smoke, lavender, menthol, licorice and wild cherry notes give the 2016 layers of nuance that inform its distinctive personality. There is lovely depth, texture and pedigree in the 2016 Tierra, a wine that will drink well for a handful of years or more.

Savvy drinker/collectors will already be running to grab what they can of this blockbuster deal --- HALCON! British ex-pats Paul and Jackie Gordon’s cool-climate wines are HOTTER than ever these days, and the wines from their 15 acre estate are outrageously good and critically acclaimed. It’s kind of a miracle we have access to enough to even offer you (after we loaded up our trunks of course)!

Located in the Yorkville Highlands between Anderson Valley and Alexander Valley, they took their cues from the likes of Wells Guthrie (Copain) and Steve Lagier/Carole Meredith (Lagier Meredith --- Syrah EXPERTS). These are brilliant wines. READ THE REVIEWS! They are low-alcohol, deeply complex, perfumey, rich and wildly fun to drink. This is a no-brainer, you guys.

About the Producer

British expats Paul and Jackie Gordon fell in love with California wine made a bold move purchasing a remote vineyard in the hills of the Yorkville Highlands between Cloverdale and Anderson Valley. They then palnted 15 acres with the help of seasoned winemaker Wells Guthrie of Copain Wines in Russian River Valley, Carole Meredith and Steven Lagier of Lagier Meredith Vineyard on Mount Veeder in Napa Valley, and Scott Shapley of ROAR. with a minimalist approach to winemaking and a hope to let the terroir of this unique site shine, and they do just that.
