This richly textured, beautifully-delineated, minerally bottle of magical goodness hails from Meursault and Puligny despite its Bourgogne designation? I guess that is what happens when you are Dominique Lafon. The first parcel is a 1.5 acre plot in the Meursault lieu-dit "Les Grandes Coutures" and the other a 3 acre property in the Puligny-Montrachet lieu-dit "Les Femelottes." The vines are 20-50 years old on average! YES -- this wine is $34.95!

Truly a no-brainer we think for white Burg lovers! For a little more background, this is a separate wine from the legendary Comtes Lafon (also headed by Dominique, of course), or, in his words: “I didn’t wish to vinify at Domaine des Comtes Lafon as I wanted to try to keep a distinct separation between the two. With Dominique Lafon I can build on what I learn, I can afford to experiment etc. I am constantly learning. If I had to define the style of the DL wines, I would say that the wines have a bit more tension than the wines of Domaine des Comtes Lafon. The élevage on the DL wines is shorter and the plots are mostly located on the upper part of the hillsides, which gives the wines an interesting minerality and tension.” – Dominique Lafon

Terrifically concentrated but light on its feet with stone fruits, citrusy acidity, good mid-palate flesh and a wonderful, long, uber-fresh finish where the minerals come sneaking in again. Just SO fantastic at this price!! We scored a wonderful price on a parcel DIRECT from Beaune. A MUST, seriously --- get a 6-pack (or more, you will need it) while we have it!! LAFON!
