Jean et Sebastien Dauvissat Chablis Montmains 1er Cru 2014 - First Bottle

Reviews

90 Stephen Tanzer, Vinous -
(bottled in May): Very pale yellow. Reticent nose hints at anise and fresh herbs. Juicy but youthfully tight, showing excellent definition and cut to its bracing flavors of underripe pineapple and lemon. This almost metallic wine will need even longer bottle aging than the Vaillons. Finishes with a balsamic quality and a whiff of green olive. 90+

Too late, we are SOLD OUT!

$29.95 on 3 or more...for 1er cru Chablis!

YES! Give us the brilliant acidity of 2014 in Chablis --- give us the beautiful streak of minerality and stone fruits, exotic lemon and Honeycrisp apple. Wow! A huge overdeliverer!! SUPER limited though -- what a score for a 6-pack UNDER $210 SHIPPED! Don’t miss!

It’s rare to find a Premier Cru bottling (Montmains, in this case) THIS GOOD and priced like this. The moment we tasted this we snagged as many cases as we could, although that’s not going to last long. Savvy Burg-philes know there are more than a few Dauvissat’s in the region --- Sebastien Dauvissat, having taken over the Domaine after his father’s untimely death, has been on a big qualitative upswing the last few years. We LOVE this brisk 2014 from Montmains, of which the family owns 1.5 hectares. Montmains' soil has a higher percentage of clay in the mix which produces a more full-bodied wine, strict and structured, marked by earthier notes on the nose and palate to complement the racy freshness.

About the Producer

Jean Dauvissat, and his son Sebastian, are the most recent in an extended line of the Dauvissat family that has been in possession of this notable domaine since 1899. The cave is positioned under the family house which dates from the 17th century and where the road to the hamlet of Chichee begins. The first formal bottling of wines under the Dauvissat label occurred on a limited scale in 1963. An unfortunate accident resulted in the untimely death of Jean Dauvissat several years ago. Sebastien Dauvissat continues the work of this historic domaine in collaboration with Evelyne Dauvissat, Jean’s wife.
