Maybach Cabernet Sauvignon Amoenus 2017 - First Bottle

Reviews

96 Jeb Dunnuck -
From a single vineyard in Calistoga, the 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Amoenus isn’t far off what the estate produced in 2016. It’s a pure, full-bodied, powerful 2017 that does everything right. Loads of blueberries, cassis, Asian spice, and flowery incense define the bouquet, and it has a pure, classic, focused style on the palate. I love its purity of fruit, it has ripe, present tannins, and while it needs 2-3 years of bottle age, it’s going to evolve gracefully for 15-20 years.

"It’s a pure, full-bodied, powerful 2017 that does everything right." That was from Jeb Dunnuck's 96-point review. This is one of the sexier 17s we've tasted this year, such polish, purity and intensity. Plenty of depth and complexity to back all that fruit up though. Sourced from a single vineyard in Calistoga, the Amoenus is simply a stunning wine.

About the Producer

For 100 years the name Maybach has been synonymous with quality at the finest level. Maybach intends to honor the tradition of individuality and craftsmanship established by our ancestors with their hand-made wines. Winemaker Thomas Brown, whose minimalist approach to his craft encourages the expression of regional characteristics in our wines, notably through rich aromas and flavors. Chris Maybach started this cult Cabernet project in 2004 with Thomas Rivers Brown as the winemaker and these wines have become some of the most sought after wines being made in California today. The Cabernets are sourced from the Weitz vineyard located in Oakville (Materium) and Amoenus vineyard in Calistoga.
