Rocca di Montegrossi Chianti Classico Gran Selezione San Marcellino 2015 - First Bottle

Reviews

96 Vinous -
The 2015 Chianti Classico Vigneto San Marcellino is fabulous. Sweet red cherry, red plum, mint, sweet pipe tobacco, cedar, licorice, blood orange and dried herbs all race out of the glass. The Sangiovese is so expressive. Even so, the 2015 is a wine of reserve. I would cellar it for at least a few years, as it has clearly entered a period of post-bottling closure. Its energy and vibrancy are notable.
94 Wine Spectator -
A broad, dense red, with ripe plum, black cherry and blackberry flavors, framed by vibrant acidity and burly tannins. Earth, sanguine and tobacco accents chime in. All the components are proportioned correctly, but this will take some time to integrate fully. Fine length and freshness. Best from 2022 through 2043. 1,400 cases made, 480 cases imported.
93 James Suckling -
A balanced, refined red with plum, cherry and chocolate character, as well as walnut. It’s medium-bodied with juicy fruit and a savory finish. Complex and pretty. Drink or hold.

Collectors! Sangiovese aficionados! Of course, YOU know that Rocca di Montegrossi is quite simply a BENCHMARK for Chianti Classico - the winery played a very central role in the history of the entire region and establishing the appellation. Located in Monti, one of the finest areas of Chianti Classico, the winery owns 100 hectares of legendary southeast-facing hillsides with calcareous loamy soils, at elevations between 340 and 510 meters above sea level.

We are very happy this Monday to offer a few cases we just received at fine pricing. Read the full reviews below, but don’t read too long - there is not much! Thrilling wine - we live for it! Don’t miss!

About the Producer

Rocca di Montegrossi is located near Monti in Chianti, one of the finest sections of Chianti Classico, about 7 km south of Gaiole. Rocca di Montegrossi's owner, Marco Ricasoli-Firidolfi, is descended from a family that played a central role in the history of the Chianti Classico region and laid the foundations for Chianti Classico wine. The estate extends over an area of 100 hectares; 20 are planted to vine, another 20 are olive groves. The vineyards, on gentle south and southeast-facing hillsides with calcareous loamy soils, are at elevations between 340 and 510 meters above sea level. Simply put, this is one of the finest producers in all of Chianti with wines that offer tremendous quality to price ratio.
