Turnbull Cabernet Sauvignon Leopoldina Vineyard 2017 - First Bottle

Reviews

96 Vinous -
The 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Leopoldina Vineyard is powerful and heady, with all of the intensity that is typical of this site on the eastern hills of Oakville. Dark, savory and powerful, the 2017 has so much to offer. The balance of intense dark fruit and muscular tannins makes for an absolutely compelling Cabernet.
94 Wine Spectator -
Well-packed for the vintage, with a deep core of plum, black cherry and anise flavors. Lively bramble, sweet tobacco and roasted apple wood elements fill in on the finish. Offers a solid encore of fruit at the end. Best from 2022 through 2035. 663 cases made.
94+ Jeb Dunnuck -
Lastly, the single vineyard 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Leopoldina Vineyard comes from Oakville. Its saturated purple/black color is followed by a beautiful, full-bodied, concentrated 2017 that has a core of blue fruits as well as notes of liquid violets, graphite, dark chocolate, and scorched earth. It's balanced, firm, and focused, with loads of potential.
92+ Robert Parker's Wine Advocate -
Deep purple black colored, the 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Leopoldina Vineyard needs coaxing to reveal a warm cassis, blackberry pie and baked blueberries core with touches of forest floor, cedar chest, unsmoked cigars and bay leaves scents. Full-bodied, firm and chewy in the mouth, it has a good core of rugged black fruit and earthy layers, finishing on a stewed tea note.

Too late, we are SOLD OUT!
The legendary Leopoldina from Turnbull is, in my opinion, one of the all time great sites in the Napa Valley. Also known as Weitz vineyard, which is owned by Turnbull, is a secret ingredient to many a top winemakers wines. Perched on the plateau in Eastern Oakville just above Phelps Backus this site is as beautiful as the wines that are made from here. Peter Heitz absolutely nailed his 2017s and this wine will rock any Cab aficionado's world. Just a couple cases allocated of this extremely rare gem usually reserved for top restaurants.
