Daniele Conterno Langhe Nebbiolo 2017
YES. You’re not reading funny. “Baby Barolo” with serious pedigree for under $20?! Doesn’t seem possible…
Yeah, we flipped out, too. New producer (to us, anyway), and virtually impossible to find in the USA. We direct-imported this for a jaw-dropper of a price. This wine is really not rated by the mainstream press (yet!), but Tasting Panel did give it a 91 (review below). Regardless, we liked it, and for $19.95, this should be a CASE BUY, easy. Who doesn’t want to drink Nebbiolo all day??
Daniele Conterno represents the fourth generation of producers, starting with great-grandfather, Pietro Conterno, and 18 hectares of land. The land passed to his grandfather, Giacomo, then to his father, Franco, whom he still works with everyday.
Bright acidity, singing its Nebbiolo-ness with black tea, dried flowers, citrus rind and earthy notes, good length and hits all the sweet spots. For our price?? GRAB IT!
