Cascina Luisin Barbaresco Asili 2017 - First Bottle

Reviews

93 James Suckling -
Aromas of strawberries and cherries with earth and sweet-spice undertones. It’s medium-to full-bodied with chewy tannins and bright acidity. Serious and focused with juicy character on the mid-palate. Flavorful finish with excellent length. Drink after 2023.

Normally $85. In this upside-down world? $39.95!! 93 points! Single-vineyard rockstar Barbaresco from the excellent ‘17 vintage priced like this is simply astounding! If you love world-class Nebbiolo like we do, from this famed vineyard (great video from Antonio Galloni of Vinous HERE), you will be scrambling to get a few of these. Just…amazing! One of the great terroirs of this planet (ask Angelo Gaja, or Bruna Giacosa, or Aldo Vacca of Produttori...)!

Cascina Lusin was founded in 1913 by Luigi Minuto, great-grandfather of the current owner Roberto Minuto. We visit the winery every year (well, not this year), and are lucky to get a small allocation of these wonderful, classically-styled wines - wines of elegance, power, ethereal weight. In 2017, they are a triumph, and our pricing is second-to-none!! No ratings as of yet, but at this price? C’mon!

What’s it like? Delicate, fine, finessed, complex and almost weightless, with tightly wound flavors and aromas of raspberry, tea leaf, balsam, menthol and toasted Asian spice. This has a LONG way to go, but the texture and sheer amount of complexity always keeps it interesting.

As we said, astounding for our price! $239.70 a 6-PACK delivered! While it lasts!
