Rocca di Montegrossi Geremia Toscana IGT 2016 - First Bottle

Reviews

96 Vinous -
The 2016 Geremia is even better than it was last year. Fresh, vibrant and full of energy, the 2016 is so wonderfully alive in the glass. The flavors are remarkably intense, and yet there is a feeling of lightness that keeps the wine brilliant. Crushed rocks, menthol, licorice, sage and gravel wrap around a core of blue/purplish fruit. There is something about the 2016 that is magical, many things, actually. Geremia is one of the most distinctive and unique wines in Chianti Classico. The 2016 is absolutely stellar.
94 Wine Spectator -
There is a beam of pure, saturated black cherry underneath leather, woodsy, iron, sanguine and rust notes. Bright and firmly structured, with dense tannins. The finish is long and complex. Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. Best from 2023 through 2040.

Too late, we are SOLD OUT!

Did you get some last time? Then, you KNOW! What an overdeliverer, right? 2016 in Tuscany is one of the best vintages in decades! Antonio Galloni of Vinous says in his 96-point review: "There is something about the 2016 that is magical, many things, actually. Geremia is one of the most distinctive and unique wines in Chianti Classico. The 2016 is absolutely stellar.”

Rocca di Montegrossi is located near Monti in Chianti, one of the finest sections of Chianti Classico, about 7 km south of Gaiole. Rocca di Montegrossi's owner, Marco Ricasoli-Firidolfi, is descended from a family that played a central role in the history of the Chianti Classico region and laid the foundations for Chianti Classico wine. The whole winery is sustainable, All the winery’s energy needs are provided by renewables and to boot, the estate also recycles rainwater for farming. All farming is done organically.

Not a wine for the shy, this Cabernet/Merlot blend shows all the generosity and polish of this great vintage. BIG, powerful, and serious, but super impressive right when you pop the cork - it’s a wine that will develop beautifully over the next decade to boot. Typically rich, opulent, hedonistic, brooding and packed with fresh and dried cherry fruit, crushed flowers, dark chocolate and baking spice. Awesome and outrageously good for the price. While it lasts, that is…!

PAIRING IDEASL: It is REALLY really hard to get simpler, better, and perfectly paired than a good batch of bolognese, seriously. Make a quick version or one that takes all day (mmmm, with cream, and stock, and pancetta, etc....), and make sure to have plenty of fresh grated parmesan at the ready. Perfection.

MUSIC SUGGESTIONS: Leon Bridges has a relatively new album, called “Gold-Diggers Sound” - check it out. That man can SING!

About the Producer

Rocca di Montegrossi is located near Monti in Chianti, one of the finest sections of Chianti Classico, about 7 km south of Gaiole. Rocca di Montegrossi's owner, Marco Ricasoli-Firidolfi, is descended from a family that played a central role in the history of the Chianti Classico region and laid the foundations for Chianti Classico wine. The estate extends over an area of 100 hectares; 20 are planted to vine, another 20 are olive groves. The vineyards, on gentle south and southeast-facing hillsides with calcareous loamy soils, are at elevations between 340 and 510 meters above sea level. Simply put, this is one of the finest producers in all of Chianti with wines that offer tremendous quality to price ratio.
