Frescobaldi Brunello di Montalcino CastelGiocondo 2013 - First Bottle

Reviews

96 Wine Enthusiast -
#35 Wine of 2018, Wine Enthusiast. Wild berry, crushed violet, pipe tobacco and chopped herb aromas leap out of the glass. Smooth and savory, the full-bodied palate shows restraint and elegance, delivering red cherry, pomegranate, ground clove and black pepper alongside taut fine-grained tannins and bright acidity.
95 James Suckling -
A firm and silky red with plum and dried cherry and some orange peel character. Full body and solid with a flavorful finish. A linear line of acidity and firm tannins make this one of the most structured wines from here in a while. Better in 2020. -- April 2018
94 Vinous -
Bright full ruby-red. Deep, pure aromas of red cherry, herbs, violet, tar and licorice. Thick and dense but tightly wound, showing a very fresh dark fruit character and a youthfully firm-edged tannic spine. Rich and dense, this calls for at least another three to five years of patience, and should last for another decade or two after that. Finishes long with tarry and savory notes, but it’s the floral lift on the back end that I like most.

Too late, we are SOLD OUT!

What a score! We snagged this parcel in Italy a few months back...seems like a fine day to unleash it! Crazy delicious and SWEET pricing!

94...95...96...and SOLD, to the savviest Brunello di Montalcino drinkers on our mailing list!! Under $50!!

Those are big scores (not to mention our whoppingly excellent price), and in this fantastic vintage, Frescobaldi has made an extraordinary Brunello to LOVE, to drink with unbridled abandon, to covet and to share -- wow! Sexy, silky, instantly, immensely satisfying is putting it lightly --- this wine is redolent of cigar box, flowers, dried and fresh sweet cherry, citrus and toasted spices...MMMMMM!! A classic from this producer that dates back to 1800, it is quite simply a rock-solid, no-brainer of a buy at our price.

About the Producer

The village of Castelgiocondo overlooks the historic estate of the Frescobaldis in Montalcino: an ancient stronghold built in 1100 to defend the road leading from the sea to Siena. The property is one of the first four to begin producing Brunello di Montalcino in 1800, and its historic importance is represented on the label of Castelgiocondo by the figure of a condottiere from a celebrated fresco of the Sienese artist Simone Martini. The site is blessed with perfect sun exposure and sits at about 900 feet in elevation, perfect for the production of world-class Brunello.
