Bevan Cellars Proprietary Red Ontogeny 2016 - First Bottle

Reviews

98 Jeb Dunnuck -
While the 2016 Ontogeny Red Wine might be the least expensive wine in the lineup, it’s unquestionably at the same quality level as the top tier releases. Boasting a saturated purple color and sensational notes of plums, currants, chocolate, and graphite, this beauty hits the palate with full-bodied richness, incredible opulence and decadent, no hard edges and perfect overall balance. It’s the real deal, and readers should snatch up this beauty.
95 Robert Parker's Wine Advocate -
Blended of 62% Cabernet Sauvignon, 19% Cabernet Franc, 15% Petit Verdot and 4% Merlot, the deep purple-black colored 2016 Ontogeny Proprietary Red Wine gives pure blackberries, black cherries and blueberries with bay leaves and black pepper plus a touch of cedar. The palate is medium to full-bodied, fresh, grainy and harmonious, finishing long and juicy. 2,963 cases produced.

Bevan Cellars Proprietary Red Ontogeny 2016

Cabernet Blends  |  US
JD98, WA95

Too late, we are SOLD OUT!
Bevan is a FORCE OF NATURE, and if you love the pedal-to-the-metal style he is a master of, you gotta have a few of these in the cellar. Plush, lush, packed and stacked. A MUST.

When we launched First Bottle, there was one wine that immediately sold out. We got more. And more. And finally Russell Bevan said: “Dudes, that’s IT!” That wine was the 98-point (and WA95) Cabernet Blend called Ontogeny. DO NOT miss it!

Russell’s wines are on fire lately (as well as his consulting projects), but this one is extraordinarily priced considering its “entry level” status. As Jeb Dunnuck notes: “...unquestionably at the same quality level as the top tier releases”. Uh, YEAH!

$599.70 DELIVERED. C’mon! 98 points!?

We re-tasted the wine last night, just to make sure it was ALL THAT. Winner winner. Hugely concentrated, unctuous and rich, seamless and polished, it is everything you expect from a Bevan wine. We can't stress enough this is a serious over-achiever! Only a few cases left! FIRST COME, FIRST SERVED…!

About the Producer

Russell Bevan and Victoria de Crescenzo went from wine lovers in the dental business to one of the great success stories in the world of wine. Learning from greats like Philip Togni, Greg Lafollette, Jim Richards and Steve Lagier, Russell's career went quickly from a pipe dream to reality. It didn't take long until the duo was searching for property in their native California. After three years they found their dream home on eight acres of land in Bennett Valley, just a few miles from where Russell grew up. It only took one visit by Kal Showket to plant the seed that led to their estate vineyard. Little did they know that Kal would be key to many of the major changes in our lives from that point on. Later that year, the Showkets gave us a ton of Cabernet Sauvignon from their best block and the rest is history.
