Pehu Simonet Face Nord Grand Cru Brut NV - First Bottle

Reviews

93 Robert Parker's Wine Advocate -
Disgorged in March 2018, the NV Brut Grand Cru Face Nord is showing very well indeed, wafting from the glass with a complex bouquet of Meyer lemon, iodine, crisp orchard fruit and smoky reduction. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, ample and racy, with a crisp core of fruit, tangy acids and a delicate, pinpoint mousse, concluding with a bright, precise finish.

Crazy prize on this electric bottle of Grand Cru grower Champagne. If you like lasers and bracing acidity in your Champers, look no further! Pehu is a Grand Cru or bust kind of Champagne producer. The small amount of 1er cru vines they own, they sell of to negociants. The rest is top notch Grand Cru vines from incredible villages like Mesnil and Verzenay, David also sources a small amount of fruit from other growers so while not an official grower producer, this captures the spirit of the framer fizz movement to be sure. Pehu-Simonet is just lighting it up right now with fleshy and polished Champagnes that are razor sharp and crispy and a pleasure to drink.

About the Producer

Pehu-Simmonet is smack dab in the middle of the grand cru Verzenay and their 18 acres are absolutely prime time terroir. With 90% Grand Cru holdings David Pehu's vineyards are in Verzy, Verzenay, Mailly, Sillery and Le Mesnil-sur-Oger! The 10% Premier cru vineyard he owns he sells off as he only wants to bottle Grand Cru. David Pehu is the fourth generation vigneron who has been at the helm since 1988. Because he sources a small amount of fruit Grand Cru fruit outside of his holdings, he is not technically a grower producer despite his significant 16 acres of Grand Cru vineyards.
