Domaine de Pallus has been around since 1883, and in 2003, Bertrand Sourdais returned to his family’s estate after gaining experience and renown at Dominio de Atauta in Spain’s Ribera del Duero. His outsider’s perspective brought a refreshed vision for the estate, and he began focusing on organic and biodynamic practices, including natural yeasts and low yields, to maximize the winery’s quality. Bertrand specializes in long, gentle extractions – sometimes more than 30 days – and aging in neutral Burgundian oak to produce elegant, structured, and savory Chinons.
The 95-point La Croix Boissee comes from a top cru and offers a big and bold expression with overt spiced characteristics alongside red fruit, citrus peel, and a sleek minerality that is wildly compelling.
